The Jagiellonian University

is the oldest higher education institution in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. It was founded on 12 May 1364 by the Polish king Casimir the Great. The year 2024 marked the 660th anniversary of this remarkable event.
Today, the Jagiellonian University comprises 16 Faculties, where nearly 5 thousand academic staff conduct research and provide education to almost 40 thousand students, within the framework of more than 150 different fields of study. Eminent researchers and state-of-the-art infrastructure make the JU one of the leading Polish scientific institutions, collaborating with major academic centres from all over the world. The Jagiellonian University is also home to numerous student research societies, where young researchers pursue their academic interests and develop friendships with people who share their passion.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Jagiellonian University

was established in its present form on 1 September 2003, following the division of the former Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science. Today, it brings together the rich mathematical tradition of Kraków and the rapidly evolving field of computer science, with research and teaching spanning a wide range of areas. These include mathematical analysis, algebra, geometry, number theory, applied mathematics, statistics, algorithms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analysis, and theoretical computer science.
Located on the Campus of the 600th Anniversary of the Jagiellonian University Revival, the Faculty benefits from a vibrant academic setting surrounded by greenery. Modern lecture halls, laboratories, and research facilities provide an inspiring environment for both scientific work and everyday university life. The campus is also a place where students, researchers, and visitors meet, exchange ideas, and build new connections.
The Faculty’s building reflects this combination of tradition and modernity. Alongside facilities designed for teaching, research, seminars, workshops, and international conferences, it features elements celebrating Kraków’s mathematical heritage, including the Allegory of Mathematics and Computer Science mural.
